Will this work on my car if the shift rod diameter is different?

Check your current knob's thread size before ordering. Universal knobs fit standard 10mm, 12mm, and metric threads — measure yours to confirm compatibility. If your rod uses a non-standard adapter, you'll need a threaded sleeve to make it work.

Do I need to remove the factory knob first?

Yes. Unscrew your factory knob by turning it counterclockwise. Some may have a set screw underneath the shift boot — check before forcing it. Once off, thread this one on hand-tight, then use a wrench if you need extra leverage to seat it fully.

Will the chrome scratch or peel with regular use?

Chrome holds up well to daily driving and hand heat. Avoid abrasive cleaners and rinse with water to prevent spotting. If the finish does chip, spot repair is possible with touch-up chrome paint, though a full re-plate would restore it completely.
