Do I need to remove the old taillight housing to install this?

No. The third brake light is a separate component mounted at the top center of the tailgate or rear panel. You'll access it from inside the vehicle or from the exterior depending on your model year, then swap the old unit out.

What if the LED doesn't light up after installation?
